"POH KAO, of Tigers and Men" is recognized by French government as a Non Governmental Organisation of general interest. It was founded in 2006 following a field study extended over 10 years in Cambodia who showed a high interaction between local people and wildlife, which demonstrates that the survival of the two is closely linked.
POH KAO brings to local people professional skills in agriculture, livestock, animal healthcare and educational approach to the protection of tiger and the fauna. Our interventions aimed at strengthening populations’ ability to control their own development in harmony with the biodiversity.
We act on two axes:
With populations of primary forests, where tigers and fauna are driven out.
- Implements long-term economic activities to ensure food sufficiency (vegetable growing, optimization of rice production without cutting trees, healthcare for livestock, drinking water) and a diversification of income sources (selling vegetables, livestock, crafts, services, ecotourism)... This aims at replacing the traffickers who are currently the only economic actors because they provide rice, loans, income to these populations.
- Awareness of the protection of tiger and the environment: training of rangers, educational workshops with children and adults.
With users of tigers and parts of wild animals threatened with extinction: the traditional medicine practitioners and their patients.
National Awareness Campaign for the Protection of tiger and species threatened with the network of traditional doctors in the country's provinces, in partnership with the Ministry of Health of Cambodia. Develop substitutes by plants.
